When asked about what I do for a living I often reply, “I have the best spot in the church, I work with Students”! God has blessed me to serve in student ministry for 35 years now and my heart for this ministry hasn’t waivered a bit. For me personally, I believe that every student placed in my care is a young life to be cultivated into a mighty warrior for God. I believe there is no better missionary to students than another student. Our opportunity through Burkemont Student Ministry is to lead students to the Lord and grow them into disciple- makers. I live out the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 -13 every day in that I want students to know that God has a “plan for their future full of hope and not despair” vs.11; and that they, “Can know him when they seek Him with their whole heart.” Vs.13

My commitment to teaching from the Bible is resolute. We want students to be familiar with the word of God and to be able to apply it in practical ways to their everyday life. We want students to know what it means to have a vibrant relationship with Jesus and how to tell others how to have a personal relationship with him. We focus on discipleship, doctrinal integrity, what it means to be a Christian and what it means to be a Southern Baptist. We believe in strong fellowship and accountability to live out our testimony. We believe that our job while we are here is to be on mission, telling “Our Story for HIS GLORY”. We are blessed to have a full staff of adult volunteers who are committed to teaching the Bible, living their faith with integrity and influencing the lives of students by being present and persistent in their life.

I also have the privilege to assist Burkemont with our missions endeavors. Our church is a sending church, a praying church, and a going church. We believe that God has called us to live out the testimony of Acts 1:8. By the Holy Spirits power and direction we are on mission both locally, state, Country and world-wide to share the love of Christ. We have investments in our community and local missions. Currently we are developing partnerships with church planters in North Carolina and other states and seeking partnerships with both the North American and International Mission Board to live out a Great Commission Life. From children to the most senior adult Burkemont believes that every generation has something to contribute to the kingdom work, and like every big family there is always room for more at the table.
